Malaysia Trip 09

DEAR GY-IANS,

Heres the 2009 Malaysia Trip diary, written by our dearest Clarissa!!

(I found it as a draft on blogger, apparently Clarissa never published it)

Here goes....

Date: 14th March 2009
First day of DHSCO annual overseas trip. :D Everyone gathered in the school foyer at 7.30pm in their respective teams – blue, red & yellow. Linda came to send us off because she is not going for the trip & she conned a lot of people into thinking that she is going for the trip. (LOL.) The bus came later than our scheduled time and dragged us slightly behind time. No harm done, we still proceeded to Malaysia with high spirits! :D

The trip, to even Singapore customs, took a long time. It was a Saturday morning and there was many people going towards Malaysia. Though it was expected, it still dragged our schedule way behind time. We were stuck in the jam for an hour before we finally reached the Singapore customs. Then we proceeded to the Malaysia customs which was, as expected, another station that will take us a lot of time.

It was nearing 2pm as we arrived for lunch, about an hour behind our scheduled lunch time. Everyone was hungry as all the three buses reached the restaurant for lunch. Finally getting our stomachs filled. Everyone was chattering & tucked in to the food when it finally came. 郑老师came around to the tables checking if we finished our vegetables. And he fed Keewei vegetables because their table didn’t finish them! (LOL.) Our table managed to finish them up because of –cough- Yiqi’s brilliant idea and other people playing scissors paper stone to decide who eats the veg.

Stomachs filled, and then we proceed on our long journey to Kuala Lumpur – The Summit Hotel. However on our way there, it started raining at around 4pm. Perfect weather to sleep in the bus and there we go on our way there. :D

Finally we reached our destination! We all gathered at the lobby. After being assigned all our respective rooms, we left for a short rest and to put our belongings in our rooms. After a brief cleaning up, we met downstairs again. And our bus came to send us to the buffet dinner by the organizers. It was nearing 8pm as we reached there. A few of the organizers gave a small talk and then our buffet dinner started. :D

At the dinner venue, I thought that yayapa (or was it yapapa?) was a fake fruit. And Jieting told us about the story of yayapa/yapapa. (I can never get its name right.) But anyway it’s good for our body so we ate a lot 8D

After that we had the buses to send us back to our hotel. There was a commotion about the case of Huijing’s unglam picture and it was eventually circulated around the whole guanyue! (Poor Huijing, its Jieting’s fault :D)

Upon reaching our hotels, we had a half an hour short break for cleaning up. So we went to Jieting’s room for water parade. The 蓝队队长(s) debriefed both GY and DYB for the day. Our behavior on the bus was quite okay. We paid attention and kept quiet immediately after Jieting, or our tour guide, started talking into the microphone.

However, the bad thing was that we were slow in getting on/off the bus. In another words, we took a little longer time to settle down on the bus. Also, we didn’t do very well in terms of moving around as a whole. This is one aspect we have to improve in as we have to walk together as a whole and not getting cut-queued by other 乐组(s) as it will slow down movement and eventually leading to some people lagging behind. Next, the luggage unloading/loading process wasn’t quite inefficient. And we have to be more careful while crossing the road as well. We also have to make sure that we eat only when told, or after we see teachers eating. Also, before we start our meals, we have to say ‘老师们吃!’ before starting on our own meals. Lastly we must finish all the vegetable (to pass zhenglaoshi’s spot check around the tables haha).
With that, they ended the debrief and we were sent back to our respective rooms to for sufficient rest for tomorrow’s concert! :D (& advance party. ._. )

Day two. 15th March, 2009. The day of the performance is here. As part of the advance team, I had to wake up earlier than the rest to proceed to the concert venue earlier. We unpacked the shengs, checked for any problems with it, and by the time we finished, the rest of the orchestra has reached the concert venue.

We prepared for our rehearsal and then it was soon the time for our first performance at 3pm. Songs for the first show consisted of 泪别阳关(junior high)，老天爷下甘雨(senior high)，二胡齐奏：《天山风情》，吹打：《黄河之水天上来》，古筝齐奏：《秦腔》 and 《将军令》，扬琴齐奏：《乡村抒怀》and for combined we had 《Di Tanjong Katong》,《茉莉花》and《东海渔歌》.

Our dear Jieting (hi Jieting you’re reading this right now :D) got emo when we’re about to go on stage for our泪别阳关! Huijing got (rather) affected as well. But we love you seniors 8D
Before 《东海渔歌》, guolaoshi started interacting with the audience because djy was taking a long time with their instruments and standing positions. It was quite a successful attempt at interacting with the audience because they were quite responsive to him.

Halfway through our encore piece, 骏马奔驰, there was a lighting problem and the lights went off. It was a good thing everyone remained calm and still continued playing.

Anyway, the holding area wasn’t exactly of the cleanest environment. Thus, the holding area of guanyue changed a few times. First time was the room with a lot of dust that even had footprints when we stepped on the floor. Then we shifted to the balcony. Windy, but the floor was very dirty with bird droppings and thus not suitable to sit down to practice. Thus we moved to the empty area behind the rooms and settled down there.

After we had lunch, zhenglaoshi decided to let most of the orchestra go back to the hotel since it was very hot over at the concert venue. On the bus to the hotel, we squeezed many people on the bus. And the bus went very, very, very low as it made a turn. Wow it was... scary. But anyway, we got our rest before our next performance and that was a good thing. As least we feel fresher and more energetic! :D

Before the second performance, guanyue started taking a lot of pictures, which included failed sheng photo because Weicheng took Yiqi only when we (shengs) were all posing for the camera. And also suona/dizi photos. Everyone was practicing longteng when we knew we had to play that as a second encore. (Except for the shengs who had no scores. D: )

And thus, our second performance at 7pm started. It was somewhat emptier than the first performance. But nevertheless we still gave our best for the performance. Audience response was good therefore we had our 龙腾虎跃 second encore after骏马奔驰. 郭老师even went on stage as the 领奏for龙腾虎跃! Our impromptu龙腾虎跃, under the 领奏 of 郭老师 himself, was a success and the atmosphere was very ‘high’. All the backstage people not involved in combined orchestra crowded around the backstage area as well. It brought the atmosphere to a higher level as 郭老师 touched many with his music as a few teared as they witnessed this second encore.

On the next day, we were debriefed about our performance on the second day. Due to the excessive number of times we had to change holding areas, our behavior turned rowdy. Our biggest problem is that we cannot settle down quick enough. Also, we like to complain. (I think it’s quite true too and I’m partially guilty for that. Sorry D: ) Also our behavior backstage reflected badly on us as we did not control ourselves and were noisy backstage. Even though the seniors told us to keep our volume down, we only did so for a few moments. After a while, our noise level resumed back to normal. Judging by our performance for the concert, we really have to 加油 for our SYF which is coming like, real soon. That was all the seniors commented about us for our behavior on the second day.

Day Three. 16 March, 2009 – The day we leave Kuala Lumpur for our second stop, Malacca. In the morning, we were given morning call at 7.20am. Then our respective 小组长will come to check our rooms for any lost items in the room and that we’ve packed everything already. After everything is clear, we went down for breakfast at our hotel. Had a full breakfast for the long day awaiting us :D Assembled at 8.40am and than we are supposed to have our luggage loaded by 8.50am. Then we boarded the bus and we set off for Chocolate Boutique. (Yay chocolate!)

First destination: Chocolate Boutique.
Time: 9.30am!

We had a tour briefing us about the history of the chocolate and the making of the chocolate etc. After that we were given a time to shop for the chocolate we want :D So after spending (a lot of) money on the chocolate, we set off for destination the second, KLCC!

Second destination: (A spot very far behind) Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC!
Time: Approximately 10am!

The Petronas Twin Towers is a hot spot for photo taking in Kuala Lumpur. Thus we took a lot of photos there. Be it, landui photo, guanyue photo, batch photos, instrument photos, or even unglam photos of people –cough- :D After occupying (a lot of) camera memory space, we left for shopping!

Third destination: Central Market (for shopping!)
Time: Approximately 11am!

Had shopping and pockets emptied (okay lah not that bad but yeah :D) at Central Market. Before that we were told repeatedly to keep our bags close to ourselves. And then we split into our shopping groups and went searching for the best buys of Central Market.

After all the shopping we gathering and proceeded for lunch. Had a little delay on the bus as there was a small miscommunication between the tour guides of the bus. But we still got to the lunch venue anyway. After that we went to Putrajaya, which the tour guide has briefed us on, as the bus drove past the magnificent buildings and road decorations. Putrajaya is a central governing area which was built in 1993. It is really a pretty place and we had photos taken there as well.

Fourth destination: Putrajaya
Time: Approximately 3.30pm!

We had our CO photo taken there as well. After which everyone broke down into smaller groups and started taking a lot of pictures as well. All the customary group photos, instrument photos, team photos, batch photos etc. However, the sky was turning gloomy so we had to go in a short time. D:

After that, off we go towards Malacca! With that we bid goodbye to Kuala Lumpur and headed towards Malacca! Most people were tired by then, so we all rested on the bus and slept half the journey there. Had our dinner when we arrived at Malacca too. Next we had shopping, part two! This time at Pahlawan Megamall! (It sounds really awesome for shopping though we didn’t get much stuff.) We split into shopping groups again as we toured the whole place with time limit of only one hour. We assembled (on time) and than we proceeded to the resort – Everly Malacca Resort. It was nice on the outside, but rather eerie inside, especially at night. Thus we walked in groups and were assigned our rooms.

Had water parade and everyone who came in commented on our big room. And all the shoes stank up the whole place. D: The team leaders debriefed us about our day as usual. One good thing: we were mostly on time. But the same problem occurred for all the previous days, we took a lot of time to settle down. Also, the movement up and down the bus was also very slow. Some of us talked when the tour guide was briefing us about the history of Malacca and about the sightseeing places, thus it was a bad behaviour displayed. Another good point is that we are often on time for shopping. However, while assembling, we tend to cluster and thus blocking the entrance of the shopping malls.

Thus with that, we ended the water parade and everyone left for their rooms. We had to get enough sleep to prepare ourselves for tomorrow’s packed schedule :D

Day four: 17 March, 2009. The day of fun at the beach! Firstly, we gathered at the hotel lobby and proceeded for a river cruise after breakfast. It was approximately at 10.15am when we reached and then we positioned ourselves in the river cruise, which Yiqi claimed was a river boat, in the lifejackets (a thousand other people used before us). On the boat, we went pass a lot of places with historical value and learnt more about the history of Malacca as well.

It was a 45 minute cruise ride and we arrived at around 11am. We started to take pictures and after a while, we started our walk to Jonker Street. We had free time to walk around and shop along the street before we had to meet for lunch. Bought some T-shirts and it was so cool. Almost all guanyue people bought the same kind of shirt :D And then we played around with hats and most of the guys came back with cowboy hats!

Lunch was chicken rice balls with a lot other dishes. It was at around 1pm. And after that we went back to our hotel to prepare and change for our next activity at the beach! Dressed in PE shorts and dark colored tops, we went to the hotel ballroom for the activity briefing. We knew that we had to be split into random groups across the orchestra. But it turned out fine, and I had three other guanyue people with me! In my group there was Eunice, Dorothea, Yiqi, Melissa, Jiaxin, Xiaowen and Kiang Gei. And we played Captain’s Bomb, in which the ball was actually replaced with water bombs. Or water plastic bags. We got all wet and dirty but it was worth it :D Jieting bombed me because me, Liqin and a few others buried her deeper in the sand :D We played against other groups as well, which meant we played against guanyue people as well. (& Jiayu’s group made me wet right in my face! LOL) Songshan’s group was the ultimate losers, and had to go out in front of the whole orchestra for a forfeit, in which he pole danced :D The initial plan was that the winner was able to bomb them with the leftover water bombs. But they changed the plan and aimed it at the rest of us instead!! Everyone was tired, wet, dirty, but happy.

We went back to our hotel rooms to get ourselves clean, and ready for the nigh cohesion! For the first game of the night, everyone had a number tagged to their backs and a piece of paper. This game was called Indian Poker. We couldn’t see our own numbers obviously, so we pulled people of the same number together. I was with Shining and we went around hunting for the other people and we found Keewei! Our sentence was ‘My name is James Bond how are you? I am fine.’ It was very high and everyone became damn funny with their facial expressions because we’re not supposed to talk!

The next game was scissors paper stone game. We had different levels, and all the levels were proudly demonstrated by our dear Jieting, who happily acted out the story of a gorilla, learning ballet, and then going to Hawaii, and ending up doing some weird dance, lastly gaining enlightenment! :D It was super crazy and chaotic. Everyone just went around shouting and playing with other people. It was a fun game and definitely brought most people closer. The atmosphere was very high and everyone had so much fun :D

A few incidents with regards to the two games; firstly I gained enlightenment, but I did not know what to do so I continue playing with other people and demoted myself!! But in the end I still won again and finally realized that I was supposed to go to the other side! The forfeit of this game was only for those who remained as gorillas at the end of the game. Our dear Huijing and Shixun were being honest and ended up doing chicken dance in front of the whole orchestra. Huijing claims she is very lousy at scissors paper stone. But incidentally she is good at chicken dance eh? :D (Huijing is going to kill me) But it was a very fun game and bonded the whole orchestra across the different sections as well as within the section itself.

Last part of the cohesion night was the group skits. Each group is to come up with a different skit and to perform it. The theme is to entertain Mdm Ilyana. DYB came up with imitating different people, which included Mollie, 郭老师, and Biyu. Zhengzu came up with different commercials, which was the same concept as us guanyue’s idea. Xianyue did the dance which included 调音and二胡stuff. TBY did similar things as well. DJY had some clapping thing and Weiteck climbing up from his wheelchair and stuff. Guanyue was so cool, Jianming’s mocca advertisement, Melvin’s curry house, Songshan + Haipok’s silkair advertisement and of course our GUANYUE CHOIR :D Lastly was the year 6-es which their skit included jumping patapons and meeting monsters, and a bottle of coke.

At the end, Mdm Ilyana gave the whole orchestra a long talk, marking the end of our annual overseas trip. Our trip 09 was over just in a few short days. It had brought everyone closer and this will definitely be part of our memories for the rest of our lives.

Had water parade after the whole night cohesion ended. The team leaders did not want to dampen our mood so they did away with the ‘emo’ talk. Curfew was at 1.30am so everyone hanged around till it was about time to proceed back to our own rooms.

Day five, 18 March, 2009 which officially marks the last day of DHSCO overseas trip 09. Being my first time travelling overseas with DHSCO, I’ve enjoyed the few days greatly. I feel like guanyue is a part of my life, thank you all my seniors who have let guanyue feel like a family. :D (I feel blessed to be in guanyue yay 8D)

Anyway we went to the red houses. Took pictures there and then learnt more about its historical background. Next we walked to the church and climbed up the hill where the guanyue guys started carrying each other on their backs. It was a hilarious sight as they carried each other up the stairs. (& the hill had a lot of steps by the way :D) It was really a funny sight when Haipok pinched Kueifu in the neck when he carried Haipok on his shoulders and Kueifu was complaining about it! We took shopping group photos up on the hill before climbing the stairs down to the shopping mall once again.

After that we met for our last lunch at Malacca before heading for Singapore. Sad, but we have to leave already. Thus, we left for the customs. The way back was slightly better than the way there as it was less packed this time. However, our bus was delayed by the checking of buses by the customs. We hanged around taking pictures before we were stopped by the customs officers. (opps.) Finally after an hour plus, our bus was finally ready for departure!

The bus ride back to school was rather slow because we were caught in a massive traffic jam. Jieting & Yilin’s attempt to make us emo was rather failed because they started asking us to sing. People who went in front were: Jiechong, Huijing, Looihan, Yijing & Daniel :D It was really fun and I’m really happy to be in guanyue. :] Yilin couldn’t resist the temptation and started singing as well HAHA. & Jieting sang with Jiechong. (Hm did you, Jieting? :o) ‘Jie’s power hahaha! Reached back school after like a real long time so it was getting dark already. Did a guanyue, we blow cheer before leaving. (Guanyue we blow cheer is adapted from ‘Shengs! We suck!’ okay! 8D)

Update on plans!

HEY GUYS!
Some updates for our plans:

GY chalet! It will be on 22nd to 24th, BBQ date will yet to be confirmed. It's at the Aranda Country Club and room number will be passed down days before the chalet! Plans for the chalet activities are yet to be discussed among the year 3s :D Oh and really really sorry that the chalet is on the weekdays! :X

And Jixun is on 14th to 18th, just reminding once again :D TYDH! On the 18th, a friday and remember the proposals are to be in by 5th! Yeah, I think i extended it by a day O.o So jiayou! And GY shall win the cooking competition! :D (btw it's this cooking competition that we are supposed to cook a dish per group for about 30 people for the TYDH! Yes! No buffet this time! More like potluck! :D GY has 2 groups and apparently both groups are going to cook at Jieting's house! Thank you jieting! :D)

A TOTAL SUCCESS!

After returning from their overseas trip to Malaysia on the 18th of March, many members were suffering from hangover - missing GUANYUE!! As it was observed from many of their Windows Live Messenger (MSN) nicknames, Ms Clarissa Yew Xiyu, 15, 'IM BACK! &missing chuguo already D:'. It soon spread like an epidemic, almost every single Guanyue member who went overseas had 'I LOVE GUANYUE', 'I MISS GUANYUE' or 'CHUGUO ROCKED' on their nicknames or personal messages. This showed how impactful the trip was on them. Ms Goh Jie Ting, 16, team leader of blue team woodwind sub-section said in an interview, "I would like to thank all Guanyue members for their cooperation during this trip, I believe everyone had an enjoyable time eh? :D"

At roughly 2 in the afternoon, while suffering from the hangover, Ms Goh Jie Ting, together with Mr Daniel Lim En Yang, 16, leader of Suonas '07-'08, Ms Han Hui Jing, 15, sectional leader of the Dunman High School Chinese Orchestra (DHSCO) woodwind section '08-'09, as well as Mr Teoh Jia Yu, 15, Chairperson of DHSCO '08-'09 decided to organize a gathering for the woodwind section later that day at 5pm, to be held at Ms Goh's house, located at Eunos. It was decided that they will engage in activities such as playing of video game Guitar Heroes, and ordering Pizza Hut for dinner. Ms Goh and Ms Han then started contacting members of the woodwind section, and to their surprise, they managed to get a total of 12 people to attend the gathering.

It was observed that everyone did put in effort to attend the gathering, even if they were packed with work to do. Ms Chong Yi Jing, 16, as well as Ms Lim Shu Hui Eunice, 16, rushed down to the event venue after watching a movie, and Ms Wong Shi Min Dorothea, 13, attended the event despite having piano lessons till 7 that day. Ms Veronica Lum Yen Yeu, 14, as well as Ms Han Hui Jing purchased food and beverages for the beastly lot, who ate and drank like they never did before.

EVENT HIGhLIGHT.
It was concluded that the dizis were rather hopeless. A friendly match of guitar heroes was held among the different instruments. Of course, needless to say, Ms Chong owned everyone else, so in this news report we shall leave her out. Despite facing strong opponents, the dizis put up a strong fight, sending representatives Ms Pang Shi Hui, 13, Ms Mah Looi Han, 13, Ms Lum Yen Yeu as well as their special pedalist who claimed that she was very good at the pedal, Ms Jeenise Ng Lee Shan, 16. Their perseverance, although leading them to nowhere, is the right spirit one should hold.

Everyone was getting restless, and soon enough, they decided to get Mr James Bond, Ms Goh's father, to take over.

We all know that 8 glasses of water a day is the healthy amount for a human being. However, what about drinking 15 cups in half an hour? Ms Han Hui Jing, being careless as she always is, ended up having a forfeit of 15cups of water, while playing a drinking game. It was to all of our amazement that Ms Quek Li Qin, 16, actually mentioned at the end of the game that she did not drink a single cup of water, when the average was at least 5 full-to-the-brim cups per person. It was really hard to believe.

Everyone had a great time at the impromptu woodwind gathering, and the party lasted till 11pm, with Ms Yew, Ms Lum and Mr Daniel Lim as the last few who left the venue. All tired, but the spirit was held on, and passion continued burning.

Hi all,

Just wanna say that you guys are really doing great again :) I can really see that you all are putting in effort and trying to practice at home, as well as come back for all the extra practices. *claps* good job everyone! But though we're improving, we're still not improving enough to meet the standards (haha I dunno how many times I said this already >< but yeah...). But if we continue keeping this up I'm confident that each and every single one of us will be able play all our parts well, and with pride. :D

Hehe sounds a bit cliche, but I really do think so! Ahem, thank you guys for your continued hard work! :) Things are getting SO much tougher and hiong-er, and we're already starting to spam practices like shit, but don't let up! We gotta pull through to the end, and make all our teachers / seniors / alumni / and most importantly OURSELVES proud. xD

HOMECOMING (and yilin's b'day) -- 2JAN2009was a super high day!-different coloured tees for a more vibrant environment!-cute and weird and embarassing but fun RED bandages/headbands-cam-whoring-crazy dancing and large movements on stage-that one 'hoi!'-dizi's ending dramatic ?? and jiayu's way of ending+flinging dizi all in one circle!-excitedly thinking of how to bow (at the finale item) in a more characteristic way-waving dizis (yilin helped too!) and jumping on stage during the finale item and laughing too much-and not getting to bow in the end (except for yilin and yihui who bhb-ed went to bow)-and getting features in the NEWSPAPERS!

YO! all MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Today's suona outing was very successful leh! we cam whore - ed like almost half of the time! hahahha 100 +++ pics...in a matter of 9 hrs or so.

Firstly, we went to teo heng and sang for 3 hrs. o.o and we saw the benjamin frm campus superstar last year there too! lol. We celebrated Jie Ren's be earlied birthday there too! haha and forced him to sing duet with cephia xD!! Kelvin came too! he looked...the same! ahha! but sad, kelvin and jiechong had to leave early, reasonable excuses. But KIWI left cos of hmm ahem some other reason....HAHA. so from 10 we are down to 7 ppl.

Went to marina square after that to catch a movie, unfortunately we were late and there was a longgggggg queue at the ticketing booth. LOL so we decided to have an early dinner and just talk all the way till 7. We sort of got lost in marina square, going up and down and all over the place to look for ' a whole stretch of restaurants' haha! Finally found it after searching high and low and we decided on swensens:D

Jie Ren emo-ed initially cos there was a STUDENT meal on offer. hahah but shhh!!!! we ordered 7 sets of student meal;) hahah super funny, when we were ordering the food, songjia kept on laughing non stop..don't noe for wat reason. We kept staring at the waiter who took the order...afraid that he would find out... haha

Talked and ate talked and ate so after all these, we went to watch wesley's(djy senior) band perform at the space in front of esplanade. The band was very cool! pro drummer, vocalist and guitarists:D but they only sang english and jap songs, of which most of them are from animes. haha then halfway through the performance, djy ppl (who came to watch too) went crazy at the front of the stage, shaking their bodies with the music. LOL they were super comical!!!!

HAHA so the last part of the outing was a cam whore ing session @ marina bay. haha we spammed photos and went to city link for an icecream treat by Jie Ren at Gelare! THANK YOU JIE REN! haha.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JIAYU FOR GETTING 2ND PLACE IN HIS NAC COMPETITION!

Yups, it may be late, but yours truly and huijing (with a little help from eunice), planned a wonderful congratulations party. And it was fun RIGHT?!? *nods* YEEESSSSS! xD

Since I'm posting pictures, I might as well post on our victory today (:

Huijing and I were so successful at stalling time until jiayu stepped out of CO room and it was totally quiet.

NOOOOOO...!!! It wasn't suppose to be like that!

Everyone stoned for I think around 5 seconds before the party poppers start going off, water started spraying and we attacked jiayu with our wonderful pink party spray thingy.

Then started water fight with water guns from who-knows-where. Followed by our cake fight. Our first victim? Jiayu of course xD

So there he is, still clean. Note the pink thingy at the window in the background xD

Apparantly we were all too busy shooting water at people, smashing cake on people, and dodging water+cake that no one managed to take pictures of the grand fight.

Hello. It is my sad duty to announce that despite all my efforts, it's still really quite impossible to book a chalet for next week at this time of the year, unless we wanna pay ridiculous prices. Hence, shall we settle for a BBQ? Some ideas have been passed about the BBQ: we can stay overnight at the beach in tents LOL, and other things like that. I offer my house, which is 5 minutes away from ECP, to anyone who wants to come and bathe the next day. :D

Of course, even without a stayover, we can still skate / cycle / play on the beach / eat. :D

Guanyue is democratic, so we should VOTE! :D

Update: I have secured a Safra Membership Card!!!! HOORAY!!! Credits to Kwong Jian Ming. :D I am going to try going down to the NS Hometeam place to book either tomorrow or the day after lah, so sit tight people. I'll try my best.:D

Also, I know some seniors, and also others, are asking about this whole chalet thing. Because Guanyue has a tradition of booking a chalet-barbecue-chalet thing depending on the year. Last year was chalet, so this year should rightfully be barbecue, so because we're suddenly discussing plans to book a chalet again, lots of people are questioning. Actually the reasoning for scheduling a chalet again this year, is because there was a 'breaking' of the tradition a few years back - we had two barbecues consecutively, so quite some of our seniors were asking to 'pay it back'. Hence two chalets consecutively. Also the seniors and our current batch also really want chalet, 'cuz we feel that we can have more quality bonding time through there. ^^ But this doesn't mean we're doing away with the tradition, don't worry!! :)

Yesterday was the Hwa Chong performance...Everyone reached school at 7am and were all soo sleepy, then we just sat around until it was time to get onto the bus. When we reached Hwa Chong what we did for approximately 5 minutes was to stand on the road and stare at their field. I swear their field is like bigger than our whole DHS campus already. -_- HUGE!

Entered the main building, went down a nice long pathway laid with a pretty red carpet, ignored the sign on the carpet that said "DO NOT STEP" and marched to our performance venue. Whereupon we stopped and stared again. I mean I know I heard that the performance venue was to be outdoors, but I didn't know it meant outside the hall. LOL. Anyways, after paiwei-ing, we ran through the songs (junma, Di Tanjong, Chanmalichan and mangchun) a few times. Wah seh the echoes were soo loud, I swear!! When the suonas blow my ears were ringing already.

The actual audience consisted of people who were going to enter the hall lah, so they just stood around to watch us play. Haha I think they were quite amazed, good job people. Lol even though the crowd seemed to get lesser and lesser with each song. But then still quite fun to go there and shiok a bit. Chanmalichan suddenly became so much more interesting now that can shout right? HAHAA.

Musically-wise was okay - haha I mean seniors came back, so nostalgic :D Except dizis yingzhun, and sometimes zhongsuo doesn't follow the yuedui's paizi(don't get nervous!) But overall was good :D

Anyway EZCO Camp 2008 was from 10 - 14th November 2008, with our performance on the 15th! :D It is already 5 days after everything ended already, but heck :D

Okay I'm sure all of us had quite some fun during the camp, DESPITE the fact that (a) quite a few of us (FOR EXAMPLE ME), were only playing ONE SONG, 《上海滩》, for the performance, and (b) we didn't really know the participants so well in the first few days so everyone just thought everyone else were weirdos. Hahaha, and (c) I was sick so you guys didn't get to hear my beautiful, melodious, dulcet tones and 20KHz scream during the duration of the camp. I know the last point is such a pity. ):

Anyway the camp was quite fun overall right? Even though we only started really getting to know the participants from the other schools on the last day. I am really very bored so I shall proceed to a case-by-case analysis of each non-DHS participant:

DIZIS:

Jiang Jun (CCHMS):
He's quite the seh, stone, silent guy. Really doesn't talk much, but his skills are to be reckoned with :D SO PRO! He's fourteen, and he's probably at Grade 10 or something because I remember he said he learnt 《牧民新歌》 like erm two years ago or something. LOL. He played 大笛 for 《上海滩》 and 伴奏ed for 《黄土情》 :D TRIVIA: HE LIVES JUST OPPOSITE LIU YI HUI. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA

Yih Shing [sp?] (Pasir Ris Secondary):
Another quiet one, but laughs a lot during 大组, esp when ttk...hmms. :D She's quite nice and offered us SWEETS. LOL. Played 曲笛 in 《上海滩》.

Cheng Chong (NAS):
I remember thinking that his name was Chung Cheng. -_- Anyway, quite a funny guy with silky silky hair. LOL. Hence the nickname "silkyboy" -_- Keeps talking during 大组 and is quite prone to stoning so often misses count of when he has to enter lol. But he's very nice. Played 曲笛 in 《上海滩》.

Yiliang (NAS):
NAS' 团长 LOL. He seems quite stone and silent too, didn't talk to him during the duration of the camp -_-. Another pro guy, but Jiayu still owns hahaha. Played 大笛 for 《上海滩》 and 伴奏ed for 《黄土情》 TRIVIA: from Maha Bodhi Primary School LOL. Oh, and he's zls' student along with Cheng Chong! :D

SUONAS:

Jieheng [a.k.a Liangwei] (NAS):
NASCO's suona ZZ! Hahaha he got named Liangwei by Song Jia, after another guy really called Liangwei. I have no idea what the link is, but it can't be good. We have suspected that he might have feelings for the abovementioned person (and no, I don't mean the real Liangwei LOL), but have no solid proof as yet. Somehow he managed to get nicknamed 'farmer' too, and it's Song Jia's fault AGAIN LOL. Plays 高唢, talked a lot during 大组 and vexed me a lot too. -_- He also has problems with 音准, but we all believe he can do it! :D

Junguang [a.k.a Gaihao] (Pasir Ris Secondary):
Pasir Ris Sec's assistant GYZZ! 'Gaihao' is obviously a nickname christened once again by darling Songjia. Something to do with him telling Liangwei - oops I meant Jieheng - to 盖好 the holes on his suona. -_- Yijing's crazy over him LOL. And he's very funny. Hahahhaa. Has great 音准, plays 高唢 :D

SHENGS:

Huixian (Si Ling Secondary):
Okay I'm so sorry if I got her name wrong. I can't remember already. Anyways she's a ZYS, and I didn't really talk to her at all. Oh but I remembered she was listening to music during dazu, and I almost died when I saw that LOL.

Michelle (NAS):
She's a GYS. Hmm dunno much about her also. She looks quite cute, reminds me of a rabbit. Don't ask me why haha. But blows quite softly...

Norris (I DUNNO WHAT SCHOOL?):
LOL THE FIRST GY PERSON I TALKED TO, THAT LOOKED SO FREAKED OUT BY ME -_-. She's a GYS, and was originally from dizi hahahaha. -_- Seems quite friendly and also quite crazy sometimes. But I didn't talk much to her. Has confidence! :D

Jarratt (NAS):
Hmmm I really really dunno much about him, and I really don't think I talked to him before. Just that he plays ZYS. -_-

OK FINISH WITH ANALYSIS. Anyway I shall just go on to the main highlight, which is the performance day. Basically people with theory exam in the morning chionged over to VCH and then we started getting ready for rehearsal. Met with some problems with the shengs, but shall not mention here haha.

I am getting bored of posting. -_- We got quite bored after awhile, and started entertaining ourselves. With cameras. And hence phototaking session started, as expected:

Luck isn't everything in exams, but still, good luck! Give yourself some space, don't be too uptight over the exams, find some time to do what you enjoy and destress. Two years down when you look back, you will realise it was so silly of you to feel so stressed over EOYs. Maintain a balanced life alright! :D

Hi my darling guanyue-ians, MISSION #1 COMPLETE!

Hehe. Good job on today's performance :D I think it was quite successful, though we definitely could've done better, 'cuz there wasn't much atmosphere, so the whole thing was a bit dead. -.- Though I think the yingxiang of the hall might have something to do with it, but still. Plus some parts I still think our dynamics not very obvious, and then there's also some parts we a bit luan, and also yinzhun problems. However, Mr Wong (eh is that his name -.-) says it was good, and that guanyue people move a lot, so :D! We so seh during guang ban hor. But I think I popped up abit too fast. Hur.

Okay, anyway, we must improve further!! We must totally OWN the version of longteng that the wushu people were using!! LOL.

Okay, here is a reminder to all, if anyone happens to drop by (which I doubt, but still): REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR BLAZERS AND BLUE FILES TOMORROW. Bring them to the CO room in the morning. I will try my UTMOST to come to school earlier than my usual 7.55pm. :D However, if I'm not there yet, there are usually lots of seniors hanging around the CO room, so please pass to them first. (It is to my utmost embarrassment that I announce that this is the first time I'm posting here...(:)

(Ok, um, serious. But then I'm referring to Jieting's 'introduction' of herself on this very blog last year, and I feel like laughing. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and see. :D)

As I know I'm not famous, I shall start of by introducing myself. :) My name is Han Hui Jing and I come from 3K. I'm in DHSCO and I play the dizi, and 2 days ago I was made zuzhang.

- Okay, introduction over! Let me post some other things:

1. There is a farewell chuida performance for the dongzhou exchange students on TUESDAY, around 1pm-3pm. Leave forms will be secured for you, because you will need to leave class earlier to eat. :D I will brief you all further tomorrow with yongjing, after chuida practice.

2. I hereby apologize(!!!) for the GIANT fiasco of passing down the message for the shicheng chuida concert. Anyway, details of the performance are, for those that wanna check again:

City Chinese Orchestra(狮城华乐团), woodwind and percussion ensemble (吹打乐) will be holding the LONG-AWAITED 《吹打乐演奏会》。 concert will be held on 3rd August 2008 (Sat) at 5.00pm at the Victoria Concert Hall.

谱架! pls rmbr to keep it in the box after dazu, chuida etc. dont leave it lying there and hoping that it will magically appear in the pujia box by itself. (: everybody keep their own pujia and im sure its not too hard. (PS: if you need help learning how to open and/or close the pujias, feel free to approach me!) :D
paiwei! okay, though guanyue has the privilege of not doing paiwei, pls take note that during chuida pracs, there is still a need to do so. pls take the initiative to do so, instead of waiting for instructions. can! guanyue must be efficient too, we dont only concentrate on the musical aspect! :D
cleanliness of guanyue area! lol okay, its rather cluttered up with cello cases, drums etc now. but during dazu, pls try to organise your stuffs. i.e.: put you bags at one side etc. dont throw it all over the place! its like finding your way through a maze when you want to walk there. very messy. but we must also keep in mind that ahemahemdjyahemahem might also be the culprits, but we must first set a good example first right! dont let the zongwus take photos of the dirtiness/messiness and show to the whole orchestra next year during 团员大会. ;D

I think all of you did very well for the performance, so yea, give yourself a clap! We may not have presented a perfect performance, but it is evident that everyone did put in a lot of effort, especially the Sec2s! For most of you this is your first performance, so well done! However, there’s still room for improvement, nothing’s perfect. You’d just get closer and closer to being perfect, but it will never be reached :D Hoho.

Hello all! I shall start off with a formal introduction. Just in case I am not known, I am Jie Ting, guanyue zuzhang 07-08. I am from sheng and I idolize hebe :) Alright perhaps that didn’t seem very formal lol.

Firstly, I would like to invite all seniors to join us in our passing down event held on the 8^th of August, Wednesday, National Day eve! I am sure you will all enjoy yourselves!! Here are some further details..

Event: Passing Down ‘07

Venue: Dunman High School Mount Sinai Campus, lecture theatre 1

Time: 1pm – 3pm

Secondly, there will be a guanyue outing after passing down as usual, and hopefully everyone would join in the fun!! Details are not out yet as I’m not sure where all of you want to go to. Please don’t make me decide cause all I can think of is kbox :D

Yeap so hopefully you people can tell me where you all want to go..?? Then we’d come up with a decision which will make everyone happy :)
